Bungie is readying another map pack for the Xbox 360 flagship shooter Halo 3. Following in the footsteps of Legendary and Heroic comes the Mythic Map Pack, which eager players can first acquire on March 3 when the limited edition version of Halo Wars is released. The pack will be purchasable on Xbox Live at a later date, as yet unannounced, and will almost double the total number of maps available for Halo 3 from the 11 that originally shipped with the game up to 20.

Similar to the first two map packs, Mythic has a specific focus. Heroic contained larger, vehicle-packed maps (Standoff and Rat’s Nest) and the Forge-ready Foundry, while Legendary featured asymmetrical maps filled with battle rifles like Ghost Town and the Lockout-resurrection Blackout. For Mythic, the focus is on tight, symmetrical arena-style combat. Also, again similar to its predecessors, Mythic features one black sheep map that’s unlike anything players have seen before.
First up is Orbital, a map set aboard a human transportation hub found far above the Earth’s atmosphere. It doesn’t really fit within the standard Halo 3 stable of maps, with the closest comparison being to a close-quarters Rat’s Nest. Orbital harkens back to old school PC shooters because of its tight corridors and multiple, operable doors that can open a path to flanking enemies when they least expect it. Teams start with two Mongoose ATVs and a Ghost, but those tight corridors keep the vehicles from dominating the map. Rocket Launchers with just two rockets apiece can be found, as can sniper rifles which players can use to their advantage along Orbital’s long, claustrophobic halls.
