Much could be anticipated after one of the most palpitation-inducing, long-winded advertising campaign of the lately released Call of Duty: Black Ops, but the numbers exceeded any rational expectation. A smashing estimate of 5.6 million copies sold in the first 24 hours in North America and Britain alone (!) make it the biggest gaming launch ever and the fastest selling game of all time – and that’s 30 years of history gaming to date. If the numbers are difficult to grasp, that’s two years’ worth of sales in less than two days. Bobby Kotick, chief executive of Activision Blizzard elaborates:
“The game’s success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet.”
And for those who aren’t impressed by these numbers, here’s a larger picture: the collective Call of Duty franchise has over 25 million players around the globe and its overall online gameplay time to date comes up to billions of hours.
With Black Ops being guaranteed a place in the Guinness World Record Book after mere 24 hours on market, it is only natural to wonder how much this title is capable of making in the long term, with some predictions hitting up to £1 billion in the long term. Once again, the gaming industry proves itself worth billions of dollars, and a powerful sector not to be underestimated.

Overly dark lighting on some multiplayer maps, lower quality graphics and laggy gameplay make this game a not buy for me.
