Rumor Killers

Is the GTA IV DLC going to be sold at retail?

We’ve been waiting what seems like an eternity for the Microsoft exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV DLC, and not long ago we got word that The Lost and Damned would finally be available for purchase in February. While we were ruminating on whether or not people would actually still be playing the game nearly a year after it was released, it seems as though GameStop was looking for a way to make a little money. According to UK website Gamer.tm, the retailer is planning to sell an in-store version of the DLC.

The original post on GameStop’s website (removed since the story broke) listed the package as containing a "two-sided poster and an Xbox Live Marketplace token card," as well as "a unique code to purchase The Lost and Damned". The listing went on to stress that there was no disc in the package and that gamers would need an Internet connection and an Xbox Live account in order to actually receive the DLC they had paid for. The product was listed for $20 and was scheduled to be released on February 17, the same day the content is set to become available on Xbox Live.

GameStop has not commented on the rumor and the fact that they have removed the listing from their site is quite suspicious. Rockstar is also staying mum, though to be fair this sort of thing really doesn’t concern them much; they get paid either way. I suppose the market for boxed DLC is the same as those who buy the pre-paid Xbox Live cards from stores, but I still don’t see how this is a good idea if it is true. We suspect this rumor is legit, but we’re hoping that if GameStop is really going to ask you to drive to the store and buy DLC that you can download from the comfort of your own home then at least maybe they could throw in something a little more enticing than a poster.

Is Harry Potter going to be the next Lego franchise?

I’ll admit right up front that I have a soft spot for the Lego video game universe. Lego Star Wars was one of my favorite games of the last generation, and Lego Batman has restored my faith in the franchise after a stumble with Lego Indiana Jones. Now it would appear that a certain boy wizard will be the latest to get the blocky treatment, as it is rumored that the Harry Potter series will be the next to undergo the transformation.

CVG was the first to break the story, though details are pretty scant at this point. We assume there will be battles with Death Eaters, the construction of objects out of Lego blocks, lots of stud collecting, and at least a dash of wizardry, so as to stay true to the source material. We’re also assuming that the games will likely skew more towards the movies than the books since the films have already taken the messy work of condensing 800 page tomes into digestible bits of pop culture. That’s called working smarter, not harder.

Aside from that, we’ll just continue to sit tight and wait for more details to come leaking out. Thus far both Warner Bros and Traveller’s Tales have declined to comment, but we’ll bring you word once something official comes out. The good news is that this time when Dumbeldore dies it won’t be quite so devastating, because you can just rebuild him! Unless of course Voldemort steals his awesome Lego beard, then you may as well just leave him as a pile of blocks. A Dumbledore without an amazing beard is no Dumbledore at all.

Are the next LittleBigPlanet costumes going to be Street Fighter IV themed?

When most games come out with new DLC it appears in the form of new levels meant to prolong the experience. With LittleBigPlanet though, all those new levels are already being created by the gaming community as a whole, so the folks at Media Molecule don’t have a whole lot to do when they get tired of swimming in their vault full of money. Thankfully, they’ve managed to keep themselves occupied by releasing a whole slew of costumes for your favorite Sackperson. Everything from astronaut to Sephiroth to Solid Snake has been available for purchase, and now it looks like the next batch of costumes may be adding a bit of that Dragon Uppercut flare.

It seems as though RipTen, while sorting through Spanish PlayStation sites, stumbled upon some pics of the alleged outfits, ripe for release sometime in the near future. Ryu, Guile, Chun-Li and Zangief are all shown, though we have no idea if those are the only ones, or if other members of the roster will show up as well. SackBlanka anyone? Making the rumor all the more intriguing is that Capcom promised a "little" surprise for PS3 owners when announcing the Season of Street Fighter. Well, Sackpeople happen to be little, so could that be their subtle way of hinting that we’re onto something here?

No details on pricing or availability yet, as to be expected from an unconfirmed rumor such as this. Considering the fact that SFIV drops on February 17 we’ll be expecting the new costumes to come out sometime before then, though. Since we don’t have an official confirmation from Capcom, Media Molecule, or Sony we can’t confirm this one, but I’ve got a good feeling that it won’t be long before we’re all doing a quarter-circle motion and tapping square trying to snap off a Sackboy Hadouken.
