Google NoFollow on Links, working?
Posted by Ben Fisher, 2007-07-31 21:35:31

On May 6th 2007 I launched this site, http://www.xboxps3gamereviews.com after being disappointed in the game Spiderman 3 for Xbox360. So I hunted down a domain name and threw together this Wordpress site with the intention of reviewing all the games I play.

Small bit o background on me, I have been doing SEO since 1995 and run a series of hosting related sites. Also recently sold two web properties, allot of the value for these properties was based on the fact they has 100’s of high tonnage terms ranging from the Keywords Hosting to Website Hosting. Most of my success in SEO has come from experimenting with everything, and sites like this usually serve a testing purposes.spiderman 3 review blog link

Well I have had a running theory for the last year that no follow on links in blogs work for SEO. Even though it is pretty plainly stated that the link condom prevents PR and authority from being passed on. So last night I was doing some commenting on blogs to promote my review of Spiderman 3.

In the blogs I usually post my keywords in the name area on the form. I used “Spiderman 3 Xbox review” , “Spiderman 3?, “Spiderman 3 Xbox” and for a test “Spiderman 3 xbox review” . One time for each phrase.

So here we are 24 hours later and this is my rank:
(btw I did submit to Digg for a small kickstart)

spiderman 3 xbox review #14
spiderman 3 xbox #31
spiderman 3 xbox reviews #16
piderman 3 xbox #8
piderman 3 xbox review #8

Now while I am very aware I will never see a drop of traffic from piderman as a keyterm I did want to see what would happen if all I did was link from a nofollow link on a blog to myself.

BTW did I mention that on my site there is no one word that say only piderman, and no not in my code either :P.
