GTA 4 Outsold in Europe by Age of Conan: Hybronian Adventures
Posted by Brandon Hess, Jun 1, 2008 19:48

What can possibly be more fun than causing mayhem in Liberty City? "Decapitation," responds the choir of consumers who rushed to buy Funcom’s Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures this week in Europe. After weeks of immense worldwide success, the PC-exclusive MMO has ousted Grand Theft Auto 4 as top seller in both Germany and Sweden; we expect Funcom to begin their celebratory Pillage-and-Burn-Fest early next week.

Rockstar’s title didn’t take the news sitting down, whose console iterations took second and fifth place in Germany and second and third in Sweden. Both titles bowed under the weight of Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii in Spain.

In the North American market, such a happening - a PC MMO other than WoW outselling a Grand Theft Auto title - would be shortly followed by plagues, floods, and the co-mingling of cats and dogs. This just goes to show how different the European market is and how flexible publishers must be in gathering sales; kudos to Funcom!
