Ever since Street Fighter mania began, rumors have been swirling about as to what consoles will see release of the game in order to compliment its debut in arcades. Of course, there were numerous Nintendo fans eager for a Wii release, just thrilled by the idea of using motion controls to execute a Haduken or a Dragon Uppercut. Their dreams were quashed recently however, as Capcom officially announced that the game would be coming only to the Xbox 360, the PS3, and the PC.
When asked by Destructoid about the decision to omit the Wii, game producer, Yoshinori Ono, said that it basically came down to an issue of finding the target audience.
"When it comes down to looking at the main target we’re trying to hit with this game, these guys are more likely to own a PS3 or an Xbox 360 than a Wii."
So essentially, Ono is saying that the folks who will likely play SF IV are the same ones who played the original SF II on the Genesis and SNES. Presumably, these folks are twenty and thirty-something year-old hardcore gamers who wouldn’t be caught dead waving their Wiimotes in public. In that respect, Nintendo’s image as the "casual" console may be hurting them on a game expected to see pretty substantial sales.
Ono offers a glimmer of hope however, seeming genuinely surprised that there may be Wii owners who really want this game.
"So really, are there fighting game fans that want this, especially in North America? If there are, and it turns out there are, then we’re more than willing to do something for them."
So there you have it Nintendo nation, start your emails, internet petitions and angry phone calls demanding "I want my MTV... er, Street Fighter IV!"
