In a brief quote to Wired, PSN Senior Director Susan Panico noted that Home is still on track to be released by the end of the year. Rather than a finished product however, early adopters will be treated to what Panico calls an "open, working beta," which should feature all the core components of the Home experience, perhaps without all the bells and whistles, and replete with the glitches and bugs that always accompany a beta.
Panico, perhaps in a Freudian slip, claimed that the "rollout will be similar to Gmail," when talking about the launch. For anyone using Gmail, you will likely note that the program is still in "beta" well over two years after its release. Perhaps Sony’s strategy is to beat Gmail out of beta, though given the history of getting Home ready for launch that might be a tall order.
