Anytime a news story comes out regarding Insomniac Games, you’ll undoubtedly hear some good news. They’ve released two PS3 exclusives since the console’s November ’06 launch, both receiving Metacritic scores of about 85. They’ve pioneered work on the console, and have openly shared their engineering secrets to other PS3 developers. They’re planning on releasing their third title, the sequel to their launch title Resistance: Fall of Man, this year, and are including two campaigns (solo and 8-player co-op) and online play topping out at 60 players. The Burbank headquarters has even been named one of the top ten places to work for three years running.
It’s no surprise, then, that Insomniac has chosen to open a second branch in the "Research Triangle" of North Carolina, already shared by Epic Games. Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, had this to say about the new venture:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for us to start a new group with the same philosophy that we’ve built up over the last 14 years at Insomniac, which is to have a team focused on top craftsmanship and attention to detail. What’s great about this team is that it’s an opportunity for Insomniac to expand without increasing our number in Burbank. It’s great to have a team that has that start-up mentality with a small group of people who are very focused on creating AAA games, but on the other side of the country. It gives us a great opportunity to bring on folks who may not have the ability to make it to the West Coast or who prefer the East Coast to the West Coast."
I have a long list of good things to say about this company, about not only their games but their perspective on the industry itself. I see it as only fitting that they should start grabbing an even larger piece of the pie and look forward to what this new studio can do. Now, Insomniac, get that crack PR team of yours to release some good news about Resistance 2, eh?
