Ron Taylor, VP of Content Business Development for Nvidia, sees little incentive for publishers to make any games as PC-exclusives from now on. Due to the success and popularity of consoles, Taylor is willing to face the fact that trying to compete with consoles for exclusive games is a losing battle.
"I think we have to face the facts - the value of consoles is such that no one is going to make a PC-exclusive game in the future. Why would they? Why would they ignore consoles?"
Unlike most, though, Taylor doesn’t see this situation as a threat to PC gaming, but rather as an opportunity. He believes that by encouraging developers to use console codes as baselines, then when the game makes the transition to PCs it will go from being great to super-mega great.
"The console is now a baseline. If you look at Gears of War or Assassin’s Creed, they came out on a console and they were great experiences - but the PC versions had additional aspects to them that also made them attractive, whether you owned the console version or not. The PC version was better. That’s something people need to get their heads around - the console is a baseline, the PC is going to be an improved version. That’s an exciting future, and that’s why I don’t see anything threatening about consoles at all."
What’s this? A PC enthusiast telling us all that consoles are a-ok and there’s nothing to worry about? This must be some sort of sign of the end times. Quickly everyone, run for the high ground! An executive at a company devoted to PCs actually said that they can get along with consoles! Repent! Repent before it’s too late!
