Second Life was featured at the recent virtual job fair for Luxembourg, which included 45 countries. The First Virtual Job Fair - ’Working Worlds’ 28 November, 2007, recruits high-calibre candidates to take up skilled roles.
Set up by Gax Technologies and taking place on the islands of working worlds on Second Life from on Wednesday 28 November, 2007, ’Working Worlds,’ has transformed into a truly international event.
Working Worlds, including some of the most important financial institutions and recruitment agencies - including Dexia Bank, Kaupthing Bank, Lombard International Assurance, Randstad, Manpower and many more - will open the doors of their virtual offices to the 800 hopefuls. The recruiters and candidates are all represented by their Second Life ’avatars’ (online personas). From behind their screens, between 8am to 9pm (GTM Luxembourg), the two parties will be able to check each other out and chat using Second Life’s messaging system or VoIP.
Cornelia den Hartog, Managing Director of GAX Technologies remarked, ’’This is a first step over the border of Luxembourg and, better still, none of the candidates have to fly out of their country or even leave their own homes to gain the chance of a top job here. This new form of virtual recruitment gives international professionals unparalleled access to Luxembourg, which has some of Europe’s highest wage levels and favourable taxation rates, combined with a growing need to add to its skilled workforce. In turn, Second Life gives Luxembourg access to a vast and dynamic labour pool - all in a brave new world of virtual 3D.’’
GAX Technologies, a specialist in software for the finance sector, was the first Luxembourg company to create a presence on Second Life. Its virtual office on the island, ’Luxembourg Business’, was officially opened on 28 June, 2007, by Minister Jeannot Krecke, the Luxembourg Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade. At present, GAX Technologies is the country’s Second Life specialist.
