Hot on the heels of the PSP’s firmware 4.0 update, Eric Lempel has informed PS3 owners of their own impending updates. The first of the two, version 2.36, does nothing more than fix compatibility of some games and is all around pretty boring. The real excitement, he informs us, comes from firmware 2.4.
In the second update, the XMB will finally, finally be available in-game; no longer will you be required to exit Warhawk to read about how your friend wishes to join you in Warhawk. There’s no word on whether or not music stored on the console’s hard drive will also be accessible during gameplay (I’m crossing my fingers with that one), but Lempel promised Trophy support and new features to be announced later.
Version 2.36 has gone live already, taking precious bandwidth from those of us repeatedly downloading Firefox 3 to set the Guiness Book World Record, but you can hold off until after midnight, right?
