Fifth Ghostbuster Revealed
Posted by Nick McCavitt, Jun 23, 2008 21:31

While it’s true that all Ghostbusters fans remember that the movie gave this honorific to Rick Moranis’ hopelessly benign character in Ghostbusters 2, it will not happen in the new Ghostbusters game when it comes out this October. This fact was uncovered at DasGamer.com as part of their continuing coverage of the development of the Ghostbusters game. Despite the fact that they have gotten the rest of the cast from the films, Moranis just wasn’t interested in signing on for the game. Why? DasGamer asked that same question and a answer was provided by Sierra’s producer Ben Borth who said that “[Moranis] made so much money off of Honey I Shrunk The Kids that he retired. He just doesn’t want to work anymore.”

Despite this gap in the framework of the game, a gap that will be filled by you as the player, everyone else you know will be present for this game including William Atherton.

You know, Walter Peck.

Okay, fine...he’s “dickless.”

The rest of the Ghostbusters cast who signed on for the game are still keeping an eye, and possibly a pair of hands, on the project. Dan Aykroyd even made his own contribution to the project when, after viewing a clip of the gameplay, he went and changed the names of the weapons to get away from a Star Trek-ian slant. Evidently, one weapon in the game was to be dubbed the "proton torpedo,” but Aykroyd’s intervention has turned it into the mighty "Boston Dart."

But what of you, then, this as yet unnamed fifth Ghostbuster? DasGamer uncovered a few details from their conversation with Ben Borth of Sierra and the Development Director of Terminal Reality, Brendan Goss. In the game, you will be fitted with an experimental proton pack which, no doubt due to the genius of Egan Spengler, will offer a broad arsenal of weapons to use in capturing the paranormal. Besides Aykroyd’s Boston Dart, names such as the Slime Cannon and the Mason Collider have been used, even if their function remains unknown at the moment. DasGamer does know who you’ll be using them against: the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is there along with the Ghost Librarian in the first film and a new spirit that takes the form of a giant monster composed entirely of books.

It’s shaping up to be an exciting looking October for Ghostbusters fans and we here at TGR will keep our PKE meters primed for any more info that comes down the pipeline.
