We’ve been waiting and waiting for "Who’s Next" to appear on the Rock Band download page and now, well, we’ll have to wait some more. However, it’s not all bad news, as Harmonix has announced that the band will have a multitude of songs available for download on July 15th, but they won’t be restricted to that single, long sought-after album.

A few weeks ago, Who guitarist Pete Townshend let slip that the band has been unable to do any work licensing "Who’s Next" due to the fact that an entire side of masters have been stolen. This led many Rock Band owners to despair, leading them to believe that Harmonix had been lying all along, and that the classic rockers would never appear on the game in any capacity beyond "Won’t Get Fooled Again," which was already on the game’s packed-in track list.

However, things are looking up, as Harmonix has been consulting with Townshend and vocalist Roger Daltrey in order to put together a sort of greatest hits soundtrack that will feature twelve songs available either individually or as a Who-riffic bundle. Early leaks on the songs include "My Generation," and "Who Are You," with more details on the rest of the line-up to come closer to release time.

So there it is Who fans, not exactly what you had been dreaming of, but a great compromise. This way, you don’t have to worry about being restricted to one album, but will get a nice sampling of all the band’s greatest work. And who doesn’t love a sampler platter?
