Singapore’s Media Development Authority has issued a ban against Microsoft’s anticipated science fiction title Mass Effect from being released there due to the presence of a scene in the game which depicts sexual intercourse between two females, one human, and one alien. The ruling has caused a clamor among the international gaming community due to a collective opinion that the the country’s Media Development Authority’s legal ruling on Mass Effect was too forceful.The country has also banned numerous Mature games from sale in the country such as God of War 2 and The Darkness for the mature nature of their own respective digital contents.
Mass Effect is the first Microsoft produced game to have banned in the country and is the only nation to have banned the game based on the game’s content. This ban, according to Reuters, has it’s roots in the country’s conservative beliefs that the country’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, should be respected and that the government should not make exceptions.
