Metal Gear Online Gets New Modes
Posted by Brad Hilderbrand, Jul 8, 2008 14:28

Quite a nice little community has grown up around Metal Gear Online, the team-based shooter packed in with Metal Gear Solid 4. Players have been constantly sneaking and shooting one another ever since it was launched, and they are hungry for more. Today, Konami has heeded those calls with two new game modes sure to please the fans.

First up is "Team Sneaking," which takes the normal "Sneaking" mode and expands it considerably. In this mode, one team is tasked with infiltrating a base and destroying a target, while the other team is in charge of protecting that target. Previously in this mode, only one player (the one controlling Snake) was allowed to be invisible until spotted, making the whole experience a lot less fun for everyone else involved. Now, the new version of the mode allows the entire infiltrating team to be invisible unless spotted, making for a whole lot of sneaky ambushes.

The other new feature is a host mode called "Headshots Only," which will alter the game’s ranking points so that any non-headshot kill is penalized rather than rewarded. This mode will likely be thoroughly abused by the super-hardcore to punish the noobs, but then noobs were put on this earth for punishment anyways, so who cares?

The patch containing the updates is free, so there’s really no reason not to download it if you’ve been playing Metal Gear Online. Unless, of course, you’re allergic to fun, and in that case I have some topical cream that may help.
