This week, we released the story to you regular TGR visitors that a new comic-themed MMO, titled DC Universe Online, was showcased at Sony’s press conference by one Jim Lee, better known as the man behind such well-known comic series such as "Batman: Hush" and "Superman: For Tomorrow," after a rousing series of one-handed pushups on stage. The game, for those who haven’t seen the original TGR piece yet, will give MMO and comic book fans alike the chance to assume the roles of their favorite comic book superheroes, super heroines, and super villains, in a variety of scenarios such as stopping a breakout at Arkham Asylum or leading a raid on the Batcave to take down the Dark Knight in his lair.
For those of you who were positively bursting with excitement at the idea of such as MMO, we here at TGR have an update concerning the game. The Creative Director at SOE, Chris Cao, informed us today that a playable demo of the game will be made available at Comic Con next week and will feature Superman locked in combat with one of his most bitter opponents, the Kryptonian A.I. Brainiac. One would think that a demo of such a novel game would be made available to the press at this year’s E3 but there is a reason for that. Mr. Cao explained thusly:
"It is being shown at Comic Con first because they want to put it in front of the fans before the press."
This devotion to the fans that Sony is displaying to the fans is commendable behavior for Sony to exhibit but may be an indication of how E3 has become less important. It has to be wondered: if E3 was at the height of its importance in the industry, would SOE have showcased the demo there instead of waiting for another venue to at last unveil the demo? In any case, this is very good news for those who are viewing the development of DC Universe Online with great anticipation, so all of you who fit into that category, get yourselves out to Comic Con for your first look at the game.
