Konami Continues Work on Metal Gear Online
Posted by Nick McCavitt, Jul 21, 2008 12:12

Over the weekend, we here at TGR reported that the release of the first expansion for Metal Gear Online expansion caused Konami’s servers to effectively collapse and causes numerous problems for players. Konami evidently went into overtime during the weekend to try and correct the problem, but as of today, that seems not have been possible. Konami posted “A Full Report and Apology” in regards and apologizing for the problems that MGS Online players had been experiencing over the weekend.

This missive, which was signed by Production Producer Kojima Hirokazu Matsuhana and Project Solutions Vice-General Manager Mitsuhiro Masanobu, first stated that they could only “regret to inform” that the July 17th Metal Gear Online expansion experienced a number of “major system problems resulting in great inconvenience for all our customers.” As a result of these continued difficulties, the company has “been taking numerous corrective measures” to work out what the problem is, but at the moment, all Konami can say is that “there are no permanent solutions we can announce at this present moment.”

Hardly a satisfactory solution to such a climatic problem, but at the end of the letter, they stated that the Metal Gear Online staff is “currently doing all in our powers to bring a permanent solution to the ongoing problems in the quickest possible time” and again stated for the record that they were expressing their “most sincere apologies for the problems” that have plagued the game since the Beta release. Matsuhana and Masanobu signed off with a last vote of appreciation for players’ “support, patience, and understanding."

So the problems haven’t increased, but they don’t seem to be improving for Konami and what makes the matter a good deal worse is that this is not a recent development but has been going since the Beta was released. Even if Konami manages to get themselves out of this hole they’ve dug for themselves, the damage to their reputation that has arisen from this will continue to have repercussions for a long time afterward.
