Rock Band 2 Spawns Its Own Tour
Posted by Brad Hilderbrand, Jul 31, 2008 11:50

One of the most obvious questions swirling around the success of the modern music game genre is, "Where are the real-life tours?" With all these huge bands lending their music to the likes of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it only makes sense to put together some kind of tour in order to showcase the bands featured in the games. That’s exactly what MTV is planning to do, as they have announced a multi-city Rock Band 2 promotional tour this fall.

Headlining the show are MTV-friendly rock acts Panic at the Disco and Dashboard Confessional. They will be joined by TRL favorites Plain White T’s and The Cab, meaning that your little sister is going to be begging for tickets. Also featured in the show will be competitions in which you, Joe Average Gamer, can attempt to prove your rock worthiness and earn a spot up on the big stage playing between opening acts. I know I sure can’t play "Chop Suey" on a real guitar, but that doesn’t mean I won’t play it on a plastic one in front of thousands of onlookers.

To be perfectly honest, I find the lineup to be a little disappointing, considering the caliber of bands that will be appearing in the upcoming game. Just off the top of my head, I know that Guns n’ Roses, System of a Down, and AC/DC will all be making their debuts in the genre in Rock Band 2, so just imagine how awesome that show could have been. Of course, those bands are super expensive to book, and seeing as how this is the first year for the tour, I’m sure MTV wanted to go slightly smaller scale to make sure they can turn a profit.

For those interested, the tour kicks off in October with venues from sea to shining sea. Tickets are on sale tomorrow, so be sure to check Ticketmaster or your other favorite retailer for details on when the show is coming to your town and how much it will cost to be surrounded by teenage girls. Sounds like a fun day.
