In a recent interview with Steven Totillo of the MTV Multiplayer blog, EA boss John Ricitiello talked a little about the chance that Boom Blox, the Steven Speilberg-produced project that actually makes physics fun, may appear on other consoles. According to Ricitiello:
“We haven’t made announcements on that front. Frankly, its original design was all about the control of the [Wii] wand. But there are other ways to implement that. It is a hugely innovative product. I expect you’ll see it on other platforms in time.”
Interesting, but how on earth will the team be able to replicate the feel of the game, so well-tuned to the motion sensors of the Wii "wand," as Ricitiello calls it, on other console controllers? The Sixaxis may allow for a similar concept, though using that controller in a throwing motion is likely to lead to a lot of busted televisions, but the Xbox 360 seems almost impossible. You’d have to use some sort of power meter or analog stick controls, and that’s nowhere near what was delivered on the Wii.
I guess I just don’t see how you can translate a game as unique as Boom Blox to other consoles, but then again EA does employ a whole army of people much smarter than me to figure out problems such as these, so we’ll see what happens. We’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for news of a Boom Blox port, but for now you may as well go ahead and pick up a copy for the Wii, it’s one of the few good games on the system.
