Too Human Looking Golden
Posted by Brad Hilderbrand, Aug 2, 2008 13:05

We’ve been waiting for a long time, but it looks like patience is about to pay off, as Too Human, the action-RPG about cybernetically-enhanced Norse gods has officially gone gold. The Xbox 360 exclusive, developed by Silicon Knights and headed by Denis Dyack, has been the source of lots of discussion and even a little bit of controversy. From long production layoffs to message board flamewars, Too Human has definitely earned its share of attention, and now the wait is almost over as the title is set to launch in just a few weeks.

Microsoft is also touting that Too Human’s demo is the most downloaded ever on Xbox Live for an action game, with the current tally standing at over 900,000 grabs. So it looks like all that controversy has been good for business, as it’s at least drummed up considerable interest in the final product.

Whether this initial curiosity translates into big sales remains to be seen. Early reactions to preview builds of the game have been mixed, and the gameplay and inventory management systems are something fairly unique to console games. While the fast-paced combat is meant to appeal to action gamers, the incredibly deep equipment, augmentation, and skill screens are designed for the hardcore RPG fan, and it remains to be seen if these two disparate elements can coexist in harmony.

On August 19th, we’ll all find out.
