Dragon Age: Origins Coming to Next-Gen Consoles
Posted by Nick McCavitt, 104 days ago Aug 21, 2008 15:26

One of the games that made its appearance at this year’s E3 was BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins, a title that represents an effort by the company to get back to its roots where the player is not fully drawn into the game, as was the case with its previous blockbuster Mass Effect, but instead you observe and react to what is going on around you from a less centralized point of view. The director and executive producer for Dragon Age, Dan Tudge, told Eurogamer that the game will now formally be “coming to consoles in the near future” which translates to late 2009 once the PC version has had its chance to see release.

BioWare has chosen to remain silent regarding information concerning their latest project; when Eurogamer attempted to question them regarding the how, when, and why of the game, the only response they received from BioWare’s public relations representative was that “plans for consoles haven’t been finalized yet." However, Tudge himself was more open to a reply, as he outlined the game’s central points in greater detail.

"Dragon Age: Origins really represents three real key elements," said Tudge. "One is obviously the origins stories, the other is the return to BioWare’s roots, and the other one is the origins of the franchise, of the series.” Tudge continued by noting that this franchise is one that the company has constructed “from the ground-up to be something we can base a lot of entertainment product in, and Dragon Age: Origins is really just the beginning."

So, despite the fact that this seems to a step back in terms of storyline and gameplay for the company, it made just turn out to be something special because, more often than not, BioWare’s projects tend to come through. However, it is uncertain that fans who have been nourished on the tasty gaming goodness that is Mass Effect will be open to what is essentially a revision in terms of gameplay. Despite this potential drawback, it is almost certain that BioWare will put enough of a spin on it to make it interesting.

And if they can’t find one, they can always add more lesbians.
