Activision Expresses Vague Disinterest in Classic Sierra Properties
Posted by Jeff Dill, 102 days ago Aug 23, 2008 12:27

Many gamers probably fondly remember the days when Sierra used to produce great games such as adventure games of the numerous Quest series. Perhaps some might have been concerned for the fate of such games following Activision’s acquisition of Vivendi/Sierra, especially since the company shed so many of its properties in the process. Maybe the most optimistic might have even dared to hope for a resurgence of point-and-click adventure games! Just kidding, no one’s that optimistic. It’s a good thing too, since it won’t happen, at least not under Activision.

In their own words:

"We are retaining only those franchises that are a strong fit with our long-term strategy including Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, and Spyro, as well as Prototype and a second game that has not yet been announced. We will not publish any other titles that previously were part of the Vivendi Games portfolio and we are currently reviewing our options regarding those titles."

If you want a new Police Quest or Space Quest or what have you, I guess you better pray some other publisher picks up the rights during the Sierra IP fire sale. I wouldn’t hold your breath, though.
