Arguably, the Final Fantasy announcement at Microsoft’s E3 press conference was the best and most exciting announcement of the show. That isn’t saying much because E3 sucked, but that’s not the point. Once the Final Fantasy trailer started playing, Sony fanboys all around the world started getting a weak feeling in their stomachs. That is, until the final conformation was announced, and then they pretty much probably felt like they got kicked in the ribs. The funny part about this? Sony doesn’t share the same pain. At least not according to the Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe chief David Reeves. He explains:
“I think that just as we got a massive blip up [in hardware sales] with GTA 4 -- which was not exclusive -- we’ll get exactly the same blip up with Final Fantasy... I know it will look great on PS3 and it’s still exclusive in Japan.”
So relax PS3 owners, you may have lost the battle but not the war. Sony is confident that the PS3 version of Final Fantasy 13 will surpass the sales of the 360 version, especially with the big push from the Japanese market. But keep in mind, it’s still unsure whether or not the 360 version will be making it to Japan or not. I guess it’s up to Microsoft to shed light on that, but until then, Sony will keep being proud of their Japanese exclusivity.
