While talking to GamesIndustry.biz, Midway VP Martin Spiess expressed his “concerns” over the Xbox 360’s performance in certain European countries during an interview at the Leipzig Games Convention, going as far as saying its “lagging behind” the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii.
"I don’t know what it’s like for other companies, but the market is not as big as the US market, so naturally we have lower attachment rates.
"But it could be growing to the same size as the US -- the only problem we have right now is that we see in certain territories Microsoft is lagging behind. Sony has become very strong, Nintendo has become very strong, but the Microsoft market in certain territories is concerning."
Its should be noted that Microsoft has accepted that work is needed to be done in certain European countries, mainly southern Europe. and has stated that they are committed to delivering content that will bolster sales. With the UK being a dominant country for Xbox 360, Microsoft is going to have to find some way of imitating that success for other European countries if they want to stand any chance of being a threat to Sony and Nintendo’s market share.
