Maybe we did see this one coming, but Activision finally confirmed the news we have all been waiting for: Call of Duty 6 will be in the hands of Infinity Ward. Many people made early assumptions that Infinity Ward would be handling the game because of the “leap-frog” method Activision has taken with the franchise, but it’s always great to get a real confirmation.
Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty 1, 2, and 4. Call of Duty 4 was the first game in the franchise set outside of World War 2 and brought players into modern times. Treyarch took control of Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Call of Duty 3, and is currently developing Call of Duty: World at War.
Some are scared about Treyarch’s involvement with the next Call of Duty, but others are excited. Personally, I was hoping for another modern shooter because I’m still getting tons of enjoyment out of Call of Duty 4. There are still no details on Call of Duty 6, but there are rumors about Infinity Ward taking a look at sci-fi shooters. Space marines anyone? We’ll just have to wait and see.
