Let’s play count the plastic instruments in your home, shall we? Right now I’m looking at 4, but that number is going to go up once I grab a Rock Band 2 bundle, and soon I won’t be able to make my way to the couch without falling over fret buttons and drum pads. The good news is that Konami is here to ease the pain, as the company has announced that they will not be making their own guitar peripheral for the upcoming Rock Revolution, but instead are making the title compatible with all guitar-shaped controllers currently on the market.
According to Mondona Akhazan, an associate product manager at Konami, “At this time, Konami will only be releasing Rock Revolution with a drum peripheral; there are no plans for a guitar peripheral. Initially, when we started making the game, we designed it to be more of a drum-focused game. We have our competitors out there that created games that are focused more around the guitars, so with this we really wanted to pay homage to the drummer.”
Akhazan also stated that Rock Revolution would work with other drum kits as well, and that the game would be able to sense which drum set you are using and condense the notes to fit the pads accordingly. Thus, all music games are now living in harmony, with everyone’s instruments working with everyone else’s games, and smiles and handshakes all around.
So there you have it, if you want to play guitar in Rock Revolution, you’re going to have to bring your own, because Konami won’t be supplying one. That is of course assuming you’re planning on playing Rock Revolution in the first place which, considering the juggernauts that are Rock Band and Guitar Hero, isn’t exactly a given.
