Good news for all those hoping to make the descent into Rapture once more: the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock has reached gold status, and the game is on track to meet its launch date of Oct. 21. In addition, Sony has announced that a demo of the game will be available on PlayStation Network this Thursday, so you can see for yourself how this version stacks up to its Xbox 360 older brother.

Sony has promised substantial additions to the PS3 version of BioShock, including new plasmid powers, a new Survivor difficulty level, Trophy support, DLC and more. It sounds like a good offer for those who never played the 360 version, but will it be enough to win over those who have already faced off against the Big Daddies once before? I guess we’ll find out next month.

Coincidentally, BioShock is launching the same day as LittleBigPlanet, so when you walk into your local game store on Oct. 21 you have a choice between cute, adorable Sackboys who want you to come play with them, and hulking, half-human monstrosities that want to tear off your skin. Sounds like there’s going to be something available for the whole family!
