I hope you didn’t think you already knew which bundle you were going to buy when Guitar Hero: World Tour makes its debut later this month, because Activision has thrown a wrench in your plans by announcing the new "deluxe edition." This particular bundle will include the game, microphone, drums and guitar, as well as a faceplate, sticker pack, dual recharge kit, t-shirt (size XL only), keychain, guitar strap and "gig bag." This cornucopia of merchandise can be yours for $240 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, or $220 for the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions.
Here’s a quick rundown of all the other bundles that will be available when the game launches, complete with pricing:
$190 for the full band kit on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
$180 for the full band kit on PS2.
$100 for the guitar/game bundle on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
$90 for the guitar/game bundle on PS2.
Of course, you can also just buy the game for $60 ($50 for Wii/PS2) if you really don’t need any more plastic instruments cluttering up your house.
Obviously the biggest question is, "What’s the difference between the deluxe kit and the full band kit?" The answer is "not much." For the extra $40, you get the recharge kit, gig bag, T-shirt, and keychain, with the only really valuable piece of merchandise being the recharge kit.
I’m seriously hoping that with all this confusion over all these different bundles, the manufacturers of rhythm games come to realize that it’s really time to stop with the constant influx of new plastic instruments. As I write this I’m looking at two drum sets, a microphone and four guitars, and I don’t think my apartment can hold any more fake musical goodness. Please Activision, please Harmonix, stop this insanity, it’s getting to the point that these games are starting to cost me more than what it would to put together a real band, all while taking up way too much space in my humble little home.
