Microsoft is the only company giving a press keynote at TGS, and as such, they’re making the most of their time in the sun. The company revealed some tasty news about two major properties in the Halo universe, Halo Wars and Halo 3.
First comes word that the Flood, those parasitic baddies that plague both humans and Covenant alike, will make an appearance in Halo Wars. We haven’t yet learned if they will be a playable race or merely a nuisance to deal with as you battle the opposition, but we do expect them to be no less annoying than they were in the previous Halo games.
Also, Microsoft has added a few new details concerning the Halo 3 campaign expansion hinted at last month. We now know that the new missions are collectively known as Halo 3: Recon, and place you in the boots of an ODST soldier dropped on a Covenant occupied world. In a new trailer, which made its debut at TGS, this new grunt emerges from one of the pods dropped at the end of the previous teaser trailer, and begins scouting the charred remains of what appears to have once been a human city. The soldier is holding what appears to be a silenced rifle, leading us to believe that perhaps the expansion relies a little more on stealth than previous Halo titles. At any rate, the expansion has also been confirmed as a prequel to Halo 3 rather than a continuation of the storyline, so it seems you’ll be filling in some of the gaps in the story through the visor of someone other than Master Chief for once.
So, it looks like there’s a lot coming down the pipe for fans of all things Halo - it looks like the fight is nowhere near finished. Which are you more excited for, the Flood showing up in Halo Wars, or brand new Halo 3 campaign levels? Tell us, we have to know!
