PS3 owners who happen to love SOCOM were dismayed this week to learn that the newly released PlayStation exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation debuted without Trophy support. As Microsoft’s Achievements system has taught us, once gamers have a taste of pointless rewards, they just can’t go back to playing games simply for the fun of it anymore. All is not lost though, as Trophies will make it into the game... eventually.
Sony’s Jennifer Clark simply stated that, "The trophies will become available via patch in the coming weeks," but was unable to provide any more specific information such as when or what the Trophy list might look like. Furthermore, Clark didn’t comment on whether or not the Trophies would be retroactive, or if gamers would have to start over like they have in other games in which Trophy support was patched in later. We are also in the dark about why Slant Six, the developers behind Confrontation, were unable to include the Trophies in the final retail build.
So what do you think of Sony’s increasingly common practice of patching games after the fact and then asking you to start over in order to get Trophies? Has anyone ever come forward and said at what point these things are going to be mandatory so we can stop messing with all these extra steps? Oh well, we may just have a juicy little rumor in tomorrow’s Rumor Killers that will make you believe that all this extra effort just might be worth it...
