2K Sports was making its debut on the PC this year with its iteration of NBA 2K9; one of 2K’s top selling franchises. Many PC gaming fans rejoiced in the fact they would get their chance for a little balling action, but things didn’t go according to plan.
It seems that 2K was trying to implement an anti-piracy prevention tool with the help of Valve Software, via Steam - and while this might have been a good measure, it punished those who purchased the game because it was shipped with no activation code.
2K did notice the problem and released a statement early yesterday acknowledging the issue. “If you recently purchased the NBA 2K9 PC title in North America, 2K Sports is aware of the issues with the Product Keys and is working hard on a solution. Check back here for answers by end of day today. We appreciate your patience."
Though it took some time yesterday to get the problem fixed, it looks like things were resolved. The official NBA 2K9 website did have this statement posted on it as of last night: “If you’ve had issues installing NBA 2K9 for the PC, please know that a solution is now in place. This solution will be downloaded automatically and seamlessly when you install your game, and no Product Key is required.” Anyone who buys the game from now on will be covered. If any other problems persist, they encourage you to contact their customer support. Looks like PC ballers will be able to get their game on after all.
