It’s a good thing Peter Molyneux is so happy with the reviews of Fable 2, because from the sounds of things the fans might not be so pleased. According to a thread on the official Lionhead forums, users are being hit with freezing issues at various points in the game, and the issue is so severe that a simple reset won’t do the trick. Some players are reporting rebooting the game over 15 times in the hopes of getting past the bug, but no matter what they do the game keeps crashing.
Gamers, being the clever lot that they are, have tried various fixes to get the game working again, and the community seems to have narrowed down the issue to a problem with the co-op patch that was released on day one alongside the game. Users who report clearing their hard drive’s cache, getting rid of all Fable 2 data and then playing the game offline without applying the co-op patch say that the issue is fixed, and the game runs fine. So if you don’t mind not being able to play with a friend it looks like you can avoid the issue entirely.
Still, online co-op has been touted as a huge feature for the game, and the team at Lionhead busted their collective hump to get a patch ready for the game’s release. But in their haste, did the team release a faulty product? The company still has not commented on the situation, likely because they’re still trying to figure out how widespread the problem is. Maybe this is what Molyneux was referring to when he said everyone who exploited the Pub Games glitch would be punished.
