We all know it took a while for the Playstation 3 to off the ground, and Sony’s handheld PSP has struggled as well, tarnishing the once-mighty Playstation brand.
But now, there’s some good news for Sony fans, and it seems that brighter days are on the horizon. The Playstation 3 console has seen, through the second quarter of Sony’s 2008 fiscal year, an 85 percent increase in sales. The previous mark, through last year’s second quarter, was 1.31 million units, and Sony has gained some much-needed ground increasing that amount to 2.43 million this year.
The other struggling console, the PSP, saw a 23 percent increase.
The console that seems to never go away, Sony’s Playstation 2, did see a dip in its sales by 25 percent, but the overall amount of sales is still better than the Playstation 3.
This news should bring more developers to the consoles because they see the growing support for the PS3 and PSP. It seems as though high price of entry may not matter as much as we thought.
Could this be a sign of Sony starting to regain its command in the console wars? Let’s start a flame war and find out what you all think.
