Mercinaries gearing up for thirds
Posted by Aaron Cooley-Themm, Nov 3, 2008 11:09

The original Mercenaries had an amazing showing on the PS2 and XBOX consoles, with positive reviews from critics. Unfortunately, the recently-released sequel fell short of the first game and of the hype, but that’s of little concern to publisher Electronic Arts or the public.

John Riccitiello, CEO of EA, said that the 1.9 million copies of Mercs 2 that have been sold is more than enough to warrant making the game a trilogy, responding with a simple "Yes” when asked in a conference call with Kotaku about the subject.

Along with Mercenaries, other EA franchises, such as Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge and Spore will see further iterations of their games as well. Second helpings, even thirds, seems to not scare the mighty EA. Here’s to blowing up some more stuff; hopefully Mercs will return to the formula that made the first game so gosh-darn lovable.
