Atlus revealed details for their upcoming DS game, Devil Survivor, in the latest issue of Famitsu. The game will be a strategy RPG following an unnamed high school student as he attempts to save Tokyo from a seven day deadline of destruction.
The game’s full title is "Megami Ibunroku Devil Survivor," a prefix also shared by the first Persona in Japan. Add to this that the game will be illustrated by Kazuma Kaneko (Shin Megami Tensei 1-3, Digital Devil Saga 1-2, Person 1-2) and it’s no stretch to figure that the new game fits in to Atlus’ MegaTen universe somewhere.
Devil Survivor’s game mechanics revolve around "COMP" -- a portable device the main character will use to form contracts with and summon demons.
The game was originally teased in last week’s Famitsu which depicted the Tokyo skyline set against a very evil looking red vortex. A week later (no doubt a marketing play on the seven day game length), Famitsu featured a three page piece detailing the game.
The game is currently 90% complete according to the article, and will come out for the DS on January 15th in Japan. Atlus has been diligently releasing games in America for some time now, so odds are Devil Survivor will see a North American release in the future as well.
Until then, MegaTen enthusiasts will just have to make do with Persona 4, which releases for the PS2 on December 9th.
