If you’re looking for the Nintendo Wii to drop in price anytime soon, don’t hold your breath.
In a recent interview, Nintendo’s Worldwide President Mr. Satoru Iwata stated his opinion on dropping the prices of systems and the effects price drops have on the public. "This is my personal thinking, but when the model’s price-tag drops over time, manufacturers are telling consumers it’s better to wait, and I’ve always thought that was a mistake,” Iwata said.
Some people may mistake this as being money hungry, but don’t. Mr. Iwata also says that he thinks price drops do a disservice to those who purchase the system before the drop; they feel like they lost out. We all know the nature of the business is to make money, but Iwata is showing sympathy for those who have been waiting out in the cold, rain, sleet, or whatever other elements people have stood out in to get a Wii.
I don’t think anyone expected a price cut with Wiis still being in a shortage, but now we know we might not see one for quite some time.
