Japan may not be the best place for a gamer to be living these days, especially if you’re a 360 gamer. First, you won’t be able to play Final Fantasy XIII while the rest of the world does. You won’t be able to chainsaw the locust or curb-stomp some COG in Gears of War 2, and now you will miss out on a rather important side quest in Fallout 3.
Bethesda has announced that they have made a few changes to the side quest, “The Power of the Atom”. The character, Mr. Burke, has been removed from the side quest which ultimately leaves out the option of detonating the nuclear bomb. Not only that, but the weapon known as the “Fat Man” will receive a name change because it was the name of one of the nuclear bombs that struck Japan during in World War II.
According to Kotaku, the reactions by Japanese gamers have been those of disappointment. Of course, it is always hard to remind people of past events but it’s not like they’re replaying the actual incident. We’ve seen reenactments of Pearl Harbor in Medal of Honor games, I say we let the Japanese gamers play their game how they want it. In my opinion, whoever made this decision is overreacting.
