It’s a bit of poetic justice that Resident Evil 4, arguably the best game of the last console generation, was first released on the Nintendo GameCube, regarded by nearly everyone as the biggest flop of a console in years. Oh sure, the game was eventually ported to every system you can imagine, but it got its start on Nintendo’s little purple lunchbox, so you’d think that Capcom would remember where they came from and show a little love with Resident Evil 5.
That doesn’t appear to be the case though, as recent comments seem to indicate that a Wii version isn’t in the cards. In an interview, game producer Jun Takeuchi was asked if we should expect to see a Wii edition of the title. His response was not promising:
"Hmm...honestly speaking, we’re kind of pushing the 360 and PS3 to their limits right now, so it would probably be pretty difficult to create a Wii version of RE5. "
So while Takeuchi stopped short of calling the feat impossible, from the sounds of things the Wii’s technical limitations are starting to catch up with it, meaning that those with a Nintendo console who want to continue the series are out of luck. Capcom could still surprise us, but if you want to get in on RE5 you may need to go out and pick up an Xbox 360, PS3, or as we reported in today’s Rumor Killers, a PC.
