Square-Enix revealed DLC for their new 360 RPG The Last Remnant today. Gluttons for JRPG punishment can look forward to two challenge packs that add especially difficult guild tasks, while explorers will soon be able to explore the Ancient Ruins via a downloadable key. Best of all, the expanded areas and challenges will be provided free of charge.
One pack which adds additional formations will cost 100 MS Points. Perhaps Square-Enix will be truly crafty and make these additional formations just happen to be the exact ones you need to finish the additional challenges. Time will tell on that one.
Here are the details:
Challenge Pack 1: “Purgatory’s Sins” - Free
Gold Member Release: 1st December, 2008
Silver Member Release: 8th December, 2008
Level up your game with this pack of ultra-challenging guild tasks. Adequate game progression is necessary.
“The Key of Ancient Ruins” - Free
Gold Member Release: 1st December, 2008
Silver Member Release: 8th December, 2008
Unlock the gates to the Ancient Ruins with this key, and discover what mysteries lie within its crumbling depths.
“March to War Set” - 100 Microsoft Points
Gold Member Release: 15th December, 2008
Silver Member Release: 15th December, 2008
Three special unlockable formations (Scatterswarm, Goblet and Catapult) that will boost your tactical strength during battle.
Challenge Pack 2: “The Price of Lies” - Free
Gold Member Release: 22nd December, 2008
Silver Member Release: 29th December, 2008
Add this pack of the most difficult guild tasks yet. Adequate game progression is necessary.
Many developers have looked to DLC as a means of keeping games off the second-hand market, and thus keep more money out of the hands of second-hand retailers like GameStop. Square-Enix is putting forward the best plan yet - free expansions metered out over several weeks to keep games in the homes of those who bought it.
But is it enough? Would a weekly handful of additional challenges keep you from reselling your game?
