Forget Spider-Man and Batman. There is a new watchman over the real Gotham, with a big gun and a sizable chainsaw bayonet. Take a cruise through New York City’s Lower East Side and you’ll get an idea of who we’re talking about.

Marcus Fenix is taking cover in New York and is plastered against buildings on two massive billboards to commemorate the release of Gears of War 2. The Locust are fiercely guarding a third location. Each billboard is at a minimum of 18 feet by 46 feet, and they are all hand-painted.

The paintings are based on Epic Games Art Director Chris Perna’s original art that was developed for the game, and was originally printed out on 9-inch by 23-inch pieces of material. A team of artists then color matched the originals and brought these massive works to life.

The spent three days painting these billboards, working tirelessly until they were complete. If you have a chance to visit any of these wonderful pieces of video game art, stop by Broome St and Crosby St (18 feet by 46 feet) or Spring St. and Crosby (19 feet by 46 feet) or Delancey St. and Allen St.(26 feet by 76 feet).

This spectacle will be gone by Monday, so after you get done cramming your tummy full of turkey this weekend and you live in the New York area, consider walking off some of that holiday feast to take a gander at these murals. If you don’t live in New York, you can at least check out Epic’s Flickr album.
