Had your fill of James Bond shooting and Call of Duty warfare? Not if Activision has anything to say about it! Another 007 game and a new installment in the now-annual CoD series have been announced as in the pipeline for next fall.
Speaking at a summit on in-game advertising hosted by gaming ad giant Massive, Activision’s suits let slip that a new Call of Duty was on the way, and it will apparently be set in the modern timeline. The word came via Newsweek journalist N’Gai Croal’s Twitter, so this isn’t a formal announcement, but was there ever really any doubt that a new CoD was on the way? The new game will be helmed by Infinity Ward, the developer behind the breakout hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Next up is a third-person action title starring James Bond. Whether this will continue the Quantum of Solace/Casino Royale storyline and feature the Daniel Craig version of Bond is unknown, but according to Croal it will be "racing and driving focused," which makes sense considering who is developing it (Bizzare Creations, the folks behind the Project Gotham series.)
Finally, next year gamers will see the return of Tony Hawk, after a one-year sabbatical from putting a new game on store shelves in the face of EA’s skating domination with Skate. Activision offered this one tantalizing hint: that the new Tony Hawk game will not be controlled with your hands. While the Wii has the balance board, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have no comparable peripheral. Could the new Tony Hawk include its own board controller? Or will each system’s camera add-on be used in some capacity?
Again, few hard details are available, but it is good to know that there’s a new angle for the Tony Hawk series, and Call of Duty fans are undoubtedly relieved to know that they’ll get their fix again in a year. As for 007...gamers will watch and wait to see what Bizzare has up their sleeves.
