If the recent title update for Gears of War 2 didn’t get you into matchmaking any faster, you may want to try again.

Gears of War 2 Senior Producer Rod Fergusson said today that the game’s matchmaking servers had been consolidated as of Tuesday, allowing for better performance of the November 27 update. It seems to have worked, Fergusson said.

"Based on what we’re seeing so far, matchmaking times have improved significantly," Fergusson said. "To be realistic though, there will still be times when a particular playlist is low on available players or there isn’t a party of the right size to merge with yours but overall, you should get into a match much quicker than before."

Players had previously reported wait times of up to 20 minutes to find a match. Others complained of indefinite wait times as the game continuously looped through its search process.

We reported on Tuesday that Epic Vice President Mark Rein was promising more fixes on the company’s fan forums. At the time, a Microsoft representative told TGR there were no announcements about further improvements beyond the recent update. I guess this changes things.

Fergusson said matchmaking will continue to improve over time. "As we get more data, we’re continuing to monitor and adjust the process to try and make it as streamlined as possible," he said.

"Again, we want to thank everyone for their patience and we’re looking forward to playing with you online," he added.

If you’re griping about gameplay, though, you’ll just have to sit tight. No one but Rein is talking about that.
