Velvet Assassin Screenshots Feature "Normal Woman"
Posted by Jared Newman, Dec 23, 2008 20:43

In a new glimpse at the star of the upcoming Velvet Assassin, developer Replay Studios stresses that Violette Summer is no Lara Croft or similarly disproportionate game babe.

A press release says the developers didn’t aim to sensationalize the war against the Nazis. "An integral part of that mission was to provide players with an intriguing view of the war by portraying a strong, yet normal (emphasis theirs) woman, not only in physique - but also in the reality of her abilities."

The stealth action game is inspired by the true story of Violette Szabo, a woman who joined the allied forces as a spy after her husband was killed in battle. Szabo was captured, tortured and killed during her second mission.

Violent Assassin sees Summer recalling her own story, of sneaking behind enemy lines to help defeat the Nazis, while comatose in a hospital. The entire game is a flashback, and players can use morphine to slow down Summer’s dreams when the situation calls for it.

Today we got a few renderings of Summer’s various outfits. We’re told that all of Summer’s possessions have a meaning and a use, hence the need for different clothing. The one above is her standard aviator outfit, and below is her night dress, which is suddenly donned when Summer uses morphine. I guess they had to show of her curves a little bit.

You can see the other two screenshots, of Summer in a leather sneaking suit and Nazi uniform, here and here.

Velvet Assassin is expected sometime next year for Xbox 360 and Windows.
