Daily News Roundup: January 8, 2009
Posted by Jared Newman, 340 days ago Jan 8, 2009 19:37

Not content with the amount of content typically offered to gamers in the early months of the year? Today’s dose of news should alter your mood.

EA Sports announced that’s getting in on the virtual world of Playstation Home with EA Sports Arena, thus opening the door to more really bad puns like "EA Heads for Home," "EA Slides Home," or maybe even "EA Invades Your Home." Anyway, gamers can meet up to watch video from the company’s sports titles, and enjoy "exclusive new EA Sports multiplayer games," according to Edge.

Previously hinted at, announced and then delayed, the Knothole Island downloadable content for Fable 2 is scheduled for a firm January 13 release date. A free update with bonus features, including gifts from Knothole Island and the ability to keep playing co-op with someone who doesn’t have the expansion pack, will be released at the same time.

If you picked up a used copy of Gears of War 2, you’ll have a chance to buy the "Flashback Map Pack" that was included for original buyers. These are five fondly remembered maps from the original Gears of War. At 400 MS points, the message is clear: Buy new, or pay later.

Finally, a demo for Halo Wars was announced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. Starting on February 5, you’ll have a chance to try the real time strategy game before it reaches U.S. stores on March 3.

It’s like the holiday gaming season all over again.

Cool, I’ll definitely try out Halo Wars. Nearly every console RTS I’ve played has been pretty terrible, save for unique ones such as GrimGrimoire, so I hope Ensemble has something good for us. Maybe it’ll be the first Halo game that I care about.
