Nintendo’s wagglin’ console owners can finally enjoy the expandability of Rock Band, thanks to today’s launch of the online store. The initial list of available songs can be found here, with each costing 200 Wii points ($2). The 20 bonus songs offered to the 360 and PS3 versions are free for the Wii as well.
While the Wii store doesn’t yet offer all the DLC available on the 360 or PS3 platforms, Harmonix "will be adding more songs from the back catalog to catch Wii users up with other systems" according to this forum post.
While Sony may have trouble getting PS3s into people’s hands, the PlayStation 2 continues to perform very well. The PS2, launched in 2000, has sold 50 million in North America in the nine years since. Unfortunately, this will give Sony more incentive to keep parroting their "ten year life cycle" slogan.
Microsoft is waiting until the holidays to unleash the next big update for the 360. In lieu of a spring update, Microsoft will release incremental updates throughout the year as soon as they are ready.
"The great benefit of the design is that we’re able to add new features, new channels and things like that pretty quickly," Xbox Live Group Manager Aaron Greenberg said. "So yeah, you’ll see us do more regular updates throughout the year."
Greenberg then assured all 360 owners that the more malleable release schedule didn’t imply a lack of content.
"I can safely say that if you’re an Xbox 360 owner today, you will end 2009 with a whole slew of new features, new content, new partners, new games that today you don’t know about," Greenberg said.
Techland announced Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood today, which will be a prequel to 2007’s Call of Juarez. The game will be published by Ubisoft, who oddly promises "the wildest West ever depicted" in their press release. Somehow that phrase makes it sound more like a musical with dancing cowboys than a gritty western.
The prequel will focus on Ray and Thomas McCall, the respective step-uncle and step-father of Call of Juarez protagonist Billy. The game is slated for a 2009 release for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Finally a reason to use that cowboy hat, sheriff star, and cap gun you have hidden away in the closet huh?
On our end, we reported that Tiger Woods loves shooting games. We also ran a story with some great quotes from our conversation with Micahel Pachter.
