Daily News Roundup: January 26, 2009
Posted by James Abels, 341 days ago Jan 26, 2009 20:45

To start things off today, TGR talked to the Developers of Godfather II and asked why the new game won’t be appearing on the the Wii. Apparently Wii wasn’t next-gen enough for them.

The Amazing Success of MK vs DCU

Within a recent Midway press release there is an interesting tidbit of information. Midway states that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe has shipped 1.8 million units worldwide. Ed Boon, Creative Director, Midway said, “there’s another Mortal Kombat in the works as we speak. “

Creator of Braid Contemplates Commitment to RPG

Jonathan Blow talked to Gamasutra about what is next in his agenda after the release of his wildly popular Xbox Live Arcade game, Braid. He talked about an updated version of Braid and a possible port to the PC. More importantly he hinted at wanting to create a 2D RPG, but also leaves a back door by saying, “I don’t really want to give much detail about it, though. And the reason is that I’ve had three or four different games that I was convinced was the next game I was working on, and I’d work on it for a little bit and decide I could maybe do something better.”

He also loosely described the game, though leaves wiggle room, “It’s an RPG right now, a 2D RPG that I’m working on. You never know. Next month, it could be a Pac-Man clone or something.”

Ubisoft Releases 25th Anniversary TMNT Game

The devleopment studio behind Super Smash Bros. is creating a four-player brawler starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ubisoft boasts that it’s "all-new" and "the first that is not tied to a TMNT® movie, television show or comic book." (Trademarks in the press release? How tacky.) The game is meant to honor 25 years of the Heroes in a Half-Shell, and is scheduled for a fall 2009 release. No other details are out right now; more info is promised in the January 2009 issue of Nintendo Power.
