Daily News Roundup: January 30, 2009
Posted by Andrew Groen, 301 days ago Jan 30, 2009 19:00

Blagojevich Corruption Strategy iPhone Game Nearing Completion

To start off the roundup today I have to put in a plug for this game. I have a special place for it in my heart since I live in Illinois.

Pay2Play is a new game being developed by one of the visual effects workers on Watchmen. It is a Drug Wars style game based on Rod Blagojevich style corruption. Screen shots of the game so far show off the player buying and selling senate seats, corporate contracts, and whatever else you can get your greedy little hands on. They should offer to mail you a Blagojevich-style wig so that you can really get into the character.

DJ Hero Confirmed

I think Activision may be going a little bit too far this time. Guitar Hero was one thing; people love pretending they can play guitar. But this is a world away. Who is going to want to sit there with a pretend turntable on their lap?

Guitar Hero fluorished in the mainstream market for one reason only: it became a must-have party item. I seriously doubt that alchohal will have the same effect on turn tables as it did on guitars.

Sony Denies Leaked PS4 Specs

In yesterday’s roundup we linked to a story about some leaked PS4 specs. They seemed real enough yesterday, but today Sony has reportedly denied this rumor, and the world has moved on.

You want my opinion though? They probably were the real specs. Every single time something like this leaks the company scrambles to cover their behinds. A denial from Sony is no less credible than a confirmation on a random blog.

Some Lich King Classes Left on the Drawing Board

As it happens, Blizzard wasn’t always certain it would be releasing the Death Knight as its first Hero Class. Apparently a couple other classes were being planned for release, but in the end Blizzard decided the Death Knight was the most appropriate right now.

"We were talking for a while about a Necromancer. He would kind of be a range caster, do a lot of corpse explode, that sort of thing. Things we ended up incorporating into the Death Knight,” said Jeff Kaplan on Blizzard’s Blizzcast.

"We also had a cool idea for a Rune Master. That was going to be more of a melee type - think rogue or monk type character. But Death Knight ultimately fit."
