Prototype is one of a slew of original games being introduced in 2009. However, until now we weren’t sure exactly when in 2009 that would be.
At the New York Comic Con today, Activision let loose their expectations for when Prototype will be complete and ready for retail. While they weren’t exactly specific, they did give a wide target of “June.”
This gives validation to rumors started by UK retailers who recently listed the game for release on June 27th. Whether that means Prototype is heading for a world wide simultaneous release is not for me to surmise, but seeing as how the UK generally gets ripped off when it comes to game release dates, I would predict that Prototype will be coming earlier in the month to North America.
You may remember Prototype as Crackdown-with-fingernails. It has been one of the most highly anticipated original IPs (releasing in 2009) since its announcement. It made headlines earlier in the year for being one of the first games announced that will be taking full advantage of the new THX 7.1 Surround Sound technology.
So yeah, if you’re one of the top 1% of gamers who have the scratch to afford a 7.1 Surround Sound set-up then I’m sure Prototype will be something for you to check out. I’m just hoping that Sierra and Radical Entertainment have more than just fancy sound so that the rest of us can enjoy what looks to be a very promising title.
Stay tuned for more Prototype info, including a specific North American release date.
