Bad news for those who bought the newest Prince of Persia game on PC last year. Ubisoft announced today that they have no plans to release their upcoming downloadable content pack on PC.
The pack is now only being planned for Xbox 360 and PS3 customers. The pack is confirmed to be a direct expansion to the original game. It will continue the story, as well as offer new levels, new player skins, and new enemies.
Ubisoft hasn’t officially given any reason as to why they have chosen to ignore their PC customers, but instead only offered this short statement, “Unfortunately for business reasons we won’t be seeing any PoP DLC appear. Sorry guys!”
In all likelihood, this is another case of of a publisher punishing the entire PC gaming audience for the actions of game pirates. Although, I can’t entirely say that I blame them. The average PC gamer is not going to pay for downloadable content when they can just as easily log in to their favorite seedy download forum and pick it up for free. So for "business reasons" they’re correct, it doesn’t really make sense.
Not to mention, PC gamers have a nasty reputation for rejecting downloadable content via patches as a sign that the game wasn’t finished when released, and the DLC is just meant to weasel a few extra dollars out of them. Heck, even games that are extremely respected by the hardcore aren’t safe anymore. Even Spore lost tons of money due to pirates.
While it would certainly be nice if Ubisoft changed their mind and ported this content to PC, this is really just one more in a long line of signs that publishers aren’t willing to put up with the complexities of developing for the PC gaming audience.
