Konami, Japanese publisher, has released their fiscal nine-month period report, which indicates a 17.3 percent jump in profits to 17.8 billion yen.
Konami also reported revenues went up 5.1 percent to 234 billion yen, and operating income also increased by 25.7 percent to 34.7 billion yen.
The Japanese company sold 22.35 million software units in their nine-month fiscal period.
One big part in Konami’s success was Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The game recently reached 4.5 million units sold worldwide. Konami’s major soccer game Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 also was a big hitter for the company with 7.4 million games sold.
Konami has gone with a different approach than most publishers in that more than half of their sales came from Sony platforms instead of the popular Nintendo Wii or DS. Sixty-one percent of sales came from Sony systems. 32 percent of their sales came from Playstation 3, 18 percent from the PS2, and 11 percent from the PSP.
Other key ingredients that pushed Konami’s success was Metal Gear Online, as the publisher just announced that it is up to 1 million accounts.
Konami has taken a somewhat different approach to the new generation consoles and sales, and it seems to be working out for them because Konami is also predicting even stronger sales this year.
